Meet Blue Heron's President & CEO
Susan Oglinsky was born in Wheeling, WV and grew up in the Northern Virginia/D.C. area. A graduate of Centreville High School in Fairfax County, VA, Susan began her political career as a senior in High School during the 1994 Republican sweep of Congress with Virginia Congressman, Tom Davis.
While attending George Mason University, Susan worked on numerous political campaigns at the local, state and federal levels, and served as a Legislative Aide in the Virginia House of Delegates.
Beginning in 2001, Susan held positions as a Political Assistant with International Paper’s Political Action Committee, as a campaign consultant and media buyer for the K Street firm of Greener and Hook under the direction of Ohio Political Legend, Ed Brookover, and as an Assistant to the Western Region Political Director in The White House Office of Political Affairs during the first term of President George W. Bush. She is also featured as a case study in the book “Careers in Political Science,” by Joel Clark (Pearson Publishing, 2004.)
Following her tenure at The White House, Susan went back to her first love of running political campaigns. Running a congressional primary race in Maryland’s First Congressional District, Susan was noted in Politico Newspaper’s “100 Political Operatives to Watch.” She was then sent by the RNC to work on the Forrester for Senate campaign in New Jersey.
Finally, Susan was hired by then Chairman of the U.S. House Education and Workforce Committee, Ohio Congressman, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, John Boehner, to serve as Coalitions Advisor for Education Issues. During her time on the Committee, she worked with outside interest groups on Education issues such as school vouchers and the Higher Education Reauthorization Act.
Returning to the Ohio Valley in 2004, Susan honed her fundraising skills at West Liberty University (WV) and Washington & Jefferson College (PA.) With a strong understanding of the importance of MOVES Management and stewardship, Susan successfully worked to receive a $1,000,000.00 bequest for West Liberty and aided in the completion of a $32 million Capital Campaign at Washington & Jefferson College.
After spending time with her parents in Wheeling, Susan returned to her “home” in Virginia and worked to complete a $2.6 million Capital Campaign at the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck in Kilmarnock, VA. When an opportunity arose at Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula as the Director of Development, and then the Chief Development Officer, she worked to fund a $6 million operating budget. Prior to leaving BGCVP, she restructured the annual Dinner Auction, subsequently exceeding previous records for the event, modernized the website and created a short marketing video about the organization, and created a much-needed comprehensive marketing plan and coffee table book. She has also worked with the U.S. Dream Academy, a national non-profit organization who aids children with incarcerated parents and family members.
Upon completion of the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce LEAD program, which she completed in 2023, Susan realized that her expertise, skills, connections and drive could benefit others. Today, she serves as President and CEO of Blue Heron Enterprises, LLC. Blue Heron Enterprises, LLC is a proud member of the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce.
